First Home BuyersIn 2000 the Federal Government introduced the First Home Owners Grant (FHOG) to provide first home buyers with financial assistance with purchasing their first home. The grant was implemented at the same time as the GST, with the intent to offset the effect of the GST towards First Home Buyers. From 1 July 2013 the FHOG, eligibility for the grant will be limited to buyers of new homes. Whilst the FHOG is a national scheme, it is administered by each State and Territory. Concessions offered may vary from state to state.
